Sabine Elias
John Elias was awarded $13.1 million following his wife, Sabine's, death after a cesarean section. Sabine was a hard worker, raising three children, including one who is autistic, and still able to find time to volunteer feeding the poorr at her church's food pantry.
Sabine's fourth child, a daughter, was born by cesarean on January 17, 1999, at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Smithtown, Massachusetts (now St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center). Sabine, 36, fainted shortly after the surgery and died from internal bleeding that was mostly likely caused by a nicked blood vessel during surgery
