Trudy Lagrew

Trudy LaGrew was a Native American woman who lived on the Red Cliff reservation in Wisconsin. She was 30 when she died on January 7, 2008, of an undiagnosed heart problem, just months after giving birth. Trudy had had complications during her first pregnancy and was overweight, but she was unable to see an obstetrician or high-risk specialist because the nearest one was a two-hour drive away. She went into labor early and went to the nearest hospital, where she was told that she would need a cesarean.
